pho·to·res·pi·ra·tion (fo″to-res″pĭ-raґshən) a process carried out by certain plants, occurring as a result of oxidation of glycolic acid (a product of photosynthesis released by chloroplasts) by glycolic acid oxidase, an enzyme present in the glyoxosomes, ultimately causing an increased output of carbon dioxide.
