A potent nonselective adrenergic (α-receptor) blocking agent of the β-haloalkylamines; blocks the excitatory response of smooth muscle and exocrine glands to epinephrine; used in the treatment of peripheral vascular diseases and in pheochromocytoma.

phe·noxy·benz·amine hy·dro·chlo·ride (fə-nok″se-benґzə-mēn) [USP] an irreversible α-adrenergic blocking agent, chemically related to the nitrogen mustards, with a long duration of action; used to control hypertension and sweating in pheochromocytoma, to treat Raynaud phenomenon, and to treat micturition disorders resulting from neurogenic bladder dysfunction or prostatic obstruction; administered orally.
