Extraction of the lens of the eye by means of a suction cup called the erysophake. [phaco- + G. erysis, pulling, drawing off]

phaco·ery·sis (fak″o-ə-reґsis) [phaco- + Gr. eryein to drag away] removal of the lens in cataract by means of suction with an instrument known as an erysiphake; called also Barraquer method or operation.
