Insecticide for termite control; preharvest defoliant; general herbicide. Has been used extensively for use in the preservation of wood, wood products, starches, dextrins, glues. No longer available for consumer use; a powerful irritant.

pen·ta·chlo·ro·phe·nol (pen″tə-klo″ro-fenґol) a compound used as an insecticide for termite control, an herbicide, and a fungicidal wood preservative; its use has been restricted because it can cause severe toxic reactions such as convulsions, contact dermatitis, and lung, liver, and kidney damage. Called also penta.
