An antibiotic derived from metabolites of fungi, such as species of Aspergillus, Penicillium, and Gymnoascus; has carcinogenic activity.

pat·u·lin (patґu-lin) a toxic and carcinogenic antibiotic derived from cultures of various fungi, especially Aspergillus and Penicillium; it causes tremor, paralysis, and death in animals that eat contaminated grain products. Called also penicidin.
