para·mas·ti·gote (par″ə-masґtĭ-gōt) [para- + Gr. mastix whip] 1. a stage in the life cycle of certain hemoflagellates, in which the kinetoplast is beside the nucleus and the flagellum runs the length of the body before exiting to become free-flowing. 2. having a second, shorter flagellum by the side of a larger one.
