pac·li·tax·el .pak-li-'tak-səl n an antineoplastic agent C47H51NO14 that was orig. derived from the bark of a yew tree (Taxus brevifolia of the family Taxaceae) of the western U.S. and British Columbia but that is now typically derived as a semisynthetic product of the English yew (T. baccata) and is used to treat ovarian cancer which has not responded to conventional chemotherapy see TAXOL

pac·li·tax·el (pak″lĭ-takґsəl) an antineoplastic agent that acts by promoting and stabilizing the polymerization of microtubules, isolated from the Pacific yew tree (Taxus brevifolia); used in the treatment of advanced ovarian or breast carcinoma, non–small cell lung carcinoma, and AIDS-related Kaposi sarcoma. Administered intravenously.
