- Inflammation of the dura mater. SYN: perimeningitis. [pachy- + G. meninx, membrane, + -itis, inflammation]- p. externa inflammation of the outer surface of the dura mater. SYN: epidural meningitis, external meningitis.- hypertrophic cervical p. a fibrotic and inflammatory thickening of spinal pachymeninges, particularly in the cervical region, resulting in spinal nerve radiculopathy; believed to be of syphilitic etiology.- pyogenic p. suppurative inflammation of the dura, often spreading from a neighboring osteomyelitis.
