An antibiotic produced by the actinomycete, Streptomyces rimosus, present in the soil; its actions and uses are similar to those of tetracycline; available as the dihydrate, hydrochloride, and calcium.

oxy·tet·ra·cy·cline (ok″se-tet″rə-siґklēn) [USP] a broad-spectrum antibiotic of the tetracycline group produced by Streptomyces rimosus, effective against a wide range of both gram-positive and gram-negative organisms, used as an antibacterial and as an adjunct in the treatment of amebiasis; administered orally or intramuscularly.
