A very large protein, constituting about 3% of skeletal muscle protein; may aid in the organization of actin filaments as well as in actin polymerization. [L. nebula, mist, fog, fr. G. nephele, + -in]

neb·u·lin (nebґu-lin) a giant (600–800kD) actin-binding protein occurring in the sarcomere; it is believed to maintain the lattice of thin filaments and may regulate their length; mutations in the gene encoding nebulin result in nemaline myopathy.
