meta·ram·i·nol bi·tar·trate (met″ə-ramґĭ-nol) [USP] a sympathomimetic agent acting mainly as an α-adrenergic agonist but also stimulating the β1-adrenergic receptors of the heart and having potent vasopressor activity, used especially for the prevention and treatment of acute hypotensive states occurring with spinal anesthesia and for adjunctive therapy of hypotension due to hemorrhage, reactions to medications, surgical complication, and shock associated with brain damage due to trauma or tumor; administered intramuscularly and intravenously.
