med·roxy·pro·ges·ter·one ac·e·tate (məd-rok″se-pro-jesґtər-ōn) [USP] a progestin administered orally for treatment of secondary amenorrhea and dysfunctional uterine bleeding, induction of menses, prevention and treatment of endometrial hyperplasia in postmenopausal hormone replacement therapy, and testing for endogenous estrogen production; administered orally or intramuscularly as an antineoplastic in treatment of metastatic endometrial, breast, and renal carcinoma; and administered intramuscularly as a long-acting contraceptive.
