in·fra·red (in-frə-redґ) denoting thermal radiation of wavelength greater than that of the red end of the visible spectrum, between the red waves and the radio waves, having wavelengths between 0.75 and 1000 μm. Infrared rays emanating from tissues are the basis of thermography.
