heliotaxis
A form of phototaxis, and perhaps of thermotaxis, in which there is a tendency to growth or movement toward (positive h.) or away from (negative h.) the sun or the sunlight. SYN: heliotropism. [helio- + G. taxis, orderly arrangement]

he·lio·tax·is (he″le-o-takґsis) [helio- + taxis] the movement of cells and microorganisms in response to either or both light and heat from the sun. The response may be toward (positive h.) or away (negative h.) from the source of stimulus. Cf. heliotropism, phototaxis, and thermotaxis.
