Haematopinus
An important genus of sucking lice (family Haematopinidae) affecting swine and other domestic and wild animals; it is normally nonpathogenic. H. asini affects horses, mules, and asses; H. eurysternus and H. quadripertusus, cattle; and H. suis, swine. [G. haima, blood, + L. pinus, pine tree]

Hae·ma·to·pi·nus (he″mə-to-piґnəs) [haemato- + Gr. pinein to drink] a genus of sucking lice (order Anoplura). H. asiґni infests horses; H. eurysterґni, the short-nosed cattle louse, infests cattle; H. quadristerґni infests cattle; and H. suґis is the most common louse of pigs.
