a cytotoxic drug derived from an extract of the mandrake plant; it is inhibits topoisomerase, an enzyme involved in DNA replication. It is administered intravenously or by mouth, primarily in the treatment of bronchial carcinoma, lymphomas, and testicular tumours. Side-effects include alopecia, nausea, and marrow suppression. Trade name: Vepesid.
