di·hy·droxy·ac·e·tone (di″hi-drok″se-as″ə-tōn) [USP] the simplest ketose, a triose; it is an isomer of glyceraldehyde and is formally called glycerone. When applied to the skin it produces a brown pigmentation and is used to darken depigmented areas in vitiligo.
