de·tox·i·fi·ca·tion (de-tok″sĭ-fĭ-kaґshən) 1. reduction of the toxic properties of poisons. 2. treatment designed to free an addict from a drug habit. 3. in naturopathy, the elimination of toxic substances from the body, either by metabolic change or by excretion; the process may be assisted therapeutically by fasting, saunas, or hydrotherapy.
