Wolbachia
Wol·bach·ia (wol-bakґe-ə) [S. Burt Wolbach, American pathologist, 20th century] a genus of bacteria of the family Anaplasmataceae, consisting of small rods and cocci that grow in vacuoles of the host cells. Organisms are symbionts in a wide variety of invertebrates, including insects, spiders, crustaceans, and nematodes such Onchocerca, and play a major role in the clinical manifestations of filariasis. The type species is W. pipienґtis.
