cyclic vomiting
severe vomiting recurring at irregular intervals, usually occurring in childhood and disappearing in adolescence; it may result in dehydration and electrolyte abnormalities and may persist for several days. The etiology is variable and often unknown; some children seem to have a hereditary tendency, others have psychogenic conditions, and others have various underlying gastrointestinal or neurological conditions. Called also cyclic vomiting syndrome, periodic v., and recurrent v.
