UDP-N-acetylglucosamine pyrophosphorylase
- UDP-N-acetylglucosamine pyrophosphorylase
- UDP-N-ac·e·tyl·glu·co·sa·mine py·ro·phos·phor·y·lase (as″ə-tēl″gloo-kōsґə-mēn pi″ro-fos-forґə-lās) [EC 2.7.7.23] an enzyme of the transferase class that catalyzes the attachment of a UMP group from UTP to N-acetylglucosamine 1-phosphate, forming UDP-N-acetylglucosamine (UDP-GlcNAc), the final step in the biosynthetic pathway of UDP-GlcNAc from fructose-6-phosphate. It is a sperm-associated antigen that has been implicated in antibody-mediated infertility in men. Called also antigen X. In official nomenclature, the preferred name is now UDP-N-acetylglucosamine diphosphorylase.
