giant cell tumor of tendon sheath
a benign tumorlike lesion of tendon sheath origin forming a small, yellow, discrete nodule, usually on the wrist and fingers or the ankle and toes. The tissue is laden with lipophages and contains multinucleated giant cells. This is sometimes considered a variant or subtype of benign fibrous histiocytoma (q.v). Called also benign synovioma and nodular tenosynovitis.
