hard tubercle

hard tubercle
a noncaseating tubercle, the characteristic lesion of sarcoidosis, composed of discrete aggregations of large, pale-staining, epithelioid cells intermingled with histiocytes, lymphocytes, and Langhans giant cells, sometimes surrounded by a narrow band of lymphocytes; when necrosis is present, it is minimal. Similar lesions may be seen in association with foreign bodies in the tissues and in such conditions as tuberculoid leprosy, tuberculosis, cutaneous leishmaniasis, and deep fungal infections.
