tryptophan 5-monooxygenase

tryptophan 5-monooxygenase
tryp·to·phan 5-mono·oxy·ge·nase (tripґto-fan mon″o-okґsə-jən-ās) [EC 1.14.16.4] a monooxygenase that activates molecular oxygen to catalyze the hydroxylation of tryptophan to hydroxytryptophan, a precursor of serotonin; it requires the cofactor tetrahydrobiopterin. The enzyme occurs in the central nervous system and is inactivated in malignant hyperphenylalaninemia.
