bone marrow transplantation
(BMT) intravenous infusion of autologous, syngeneic, or allogeneic bone marrow or stem cells (see peripheral blood progenitor cells, under cell); done to treat malignancies such as leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, and selected solid tumors, as well as nonmalignant conditions such as aplastic anemia, immunologic deficiencies, inborn errors of metabolism, and the myeloablation resulting from chemotherapy or radiotherapy.
