- a contagious disease of the respiratory tract, seen in dogs that are confined together in close quarters and spread by aerosol droplets; characteristics include mild cough, laryngitis, and swelling of the air passages. In puppies and weakened animals it may progress to pneumonia. Etiologic agents include Bordetella bronchiseptica, adenoviruses, canine parainfluenza virus, and occasionally other bacteria or viruses.
