acute tonsillitis

acute tonsillitis
tonsillitis of abrupt onset, usually due to infection with a bacteria (commonly a beta-hemolytic streptococcus) or a virus. Characteristics include swelling, chills and fever, headache, and pain in the throat with dysphagia. See also lacunar t. and streptococcal pharyngitis.
