cil·io·gen·e·sis (sil″e-o-jenґə-sis) [cilio- + genesis] the formation or development of cilia, a multistep process in which centrioles are generated and migrate to the apical region of the cell, followed by the formation of basal body–associated structures and elongation of the cilia by polymerization of tubulin to form axonemes.
