acid elution test
(for fetal hemoglobin) air-dried blood smears on a glass slide are fixed in 80 per cent methanol and immersed in a buffer at pH 3.3 (citric acid and sodium phosphate); all hemoglobins are eluted except fetal hemoglobin, which remains fixed in the red cells and can be detected after staining. Called also Kleihauer or Kleihauer-Betke t.
