tei·co·pla·nin (ti-ko-plaґnin) a glycopeptide antibiotic produced by the bacterium Actinoplanes teichomyceticus, used as a less toxic alternative to vancomycin in the treatment of moderate to severe infections caused by gram-positive bacteria where other antibiotics cannot be used.
