wobbler syndrome
1. in large to giant dogs, malformation of the lower cervical vertebrae with compression of the spinal cord so that the animal has ataxia of the hind limbs and a swaying gait; it may progress to paralysis. Called also wobbles. 2. in young horses, incoordination of the hind legs with a swaying gait progressing to stumbling, inability to walk, and sometimes paralysis; causes are varied and include stenosis of the spinal canal, malformation of the cervical vertebrae with demyelination, and inflammation of the cord. Called also equine sensory ataxia and wobbles.
