chro·mo·mere (kroґmo-mēr) [chromo- + -mere] 1. one of the series of beadlike granules occurring along eukaryotic chromosomes, representing localized coiling and condensation of the chromatin, as seen in the leptotene and zygotene stages of meiosis. The term is also used to denote such condensed chromatin regions at the base of loops in lampbrush chromosomes as well as condensed bands in polytene chromosomes. 2. granulomere.
