TORCH syndrome

TORCH syndrome
[toxoplasmosis, other agents, rubella, cytomegalovirus, herpes simplex] any of a group of infections seen in neonates that occurs when organisms causing one of the infections cross the placental barrier; they all have similar symptoms in babies and may be clinically silent in the mothers. Called also TORCH infection.
