- chronic pain in the breast, axilla, or proximal part of the upper limb after a mastectomy, aggravated by movement of the shoulder and sometimes by stretching or other exertion of the arm muscles; it is usually neuropathic, caused by trauma to a nerve in the area, particularly the intercostobrachial nerve or superior lateral cutaneous nerve.
