Clinical cytogenetics
The application of chromosome studies to clinical medicine. For example, clinical cytogenetic testing is done to see if a child with possible Down syndrome has an extra chromosome #21, as is most often the case. Clinical Cytogenetics is a specialty certified by the American Board Of Medical Genetics.
