striae distensae

striae distensae
linear, atrophic, pink to purple, scarlike lesions, which later become pale in light-skinned individuals (striae albae or albicantes), seen most often on the abdomen, breasts, buttocks, or thighs. They are due to weakening of the elastic tissues, and are associated with pregnancy (striae gravidarum), excessive obesity, rapid growth during puberty and adolescence, Cushing syndrome, or topical or prolonged treatment with corticosteroids. Called also lineae atrophicae, linear atrophy, atrophic striae, and striae atrophicae.
