visceral space

visceral space
a potential space between the pretracheal fascia and the prevertebral fascia, extending from the hyoid bone to the mediastinum and containing the lower pharynx, larynx, trachea, esophagus, thyroid, great vessels, and areolar tissue. It is subdivided into the anterior visceral, posterior visceral (retrovisceral), and visceral vascular or carotid spaces.
