hepatic schistosomiasis
the chronic form of either schistosomiasis mansoni or schistosomiasis japonica in which the liver is involved. Ova of the parasites lodge in the hepatic portal venules, stimulating an inflammatory reaction with pipestem fibrosis; portal venous destruction leads to portal hypertension.
