- flagellar rootlet
- one of the delicate striated fibrils of the flagellar root system that arise from the basal body and run deep into the cytoplasm, perhaps serving as anchoring organelles or having a skeletal function. They occur most commonly in phytoflagellate protozoa, and were formerly thought to connect the basal body to the nucleus of the cell. Called also rhizoblast and rhizoplast.
