decerebrate rigidity

decerebrate rigidity
an abnormal body posture produced by decerebration. In experimental animals it is marked by rigid extension of the lower limbs (hindlimbs in a quadruped). In humans it is manifested by the person lying in rigid extension with the upper limbs internally rotated at the shoulders and pronated; elbows, knees, and hips rigidly extended; and fingers, ankles, and toes flexed. Called also decerebrate or extensor posturing.

(A), Decerebrate rigidity; (B), decorticate rigidity.
