trigeminal rhizotomy

trigeminal rhizotomy
destruction of part of the sensory root of the trigeminal nerve above the trigeminal ganglion, or of the ganglion itself, for the relief of trigeminal neuralgia. The most common surgical techniques used are the Dandy and Frazier-Spiller operations; nonsurgical techniques include percutaneous radiofrequency rhizotomy and glycerol rhizotomy. Called also retrogasserian r.
