multicentric reticulohistiocytosis

multicentric reticulohistiocytosis
one of the two types of reticulohistiocytoma, a rare systemic disease seen mainly in women, characterized by polyarthritis of the hands and large joints with nodular swellings in the skin, bone, and mucous and synovial membranes and sometimes swellings on the wrists; there may be evidence of internal malignancy. It may become quiescent, leaving only crippling arthropathy and disfigured skin, or it may progress to multiple organ involvement and eventual death. Called also lipid or lipoid dermatoarthritis.
