- unilateral contraction of the pupil, followed by dilatation after closure or attempted closure of eyelids that are forcibly held apart. Called also Galassi pupillary, orbicularis, or Westphal-Piltz phenomenon and Gifford, Gifford-Galassi, or Westphal pupillary r.
