somatic recombination
the rearrangement of genetic material by bringing together a set of inherited, initially separated, DNA sequences by deletion of the intervening DNA; in immature B and T lymphocytes, it is the method by which the variety of genes encoding the diverse repertoire of antigen receptors is generated.
