adjusted rate
a fictitious summary rate statistically adjusted to remove the effect of a demographic or other influential variable such as age or sex, thus permitting unbiased comparison between groups having different underlying compositions with respect to these variables. Called also standardized r. Cf. crude r. and specific r.
