radiatio optica

[TA] optic radiation: a fiber tract that begins at the lateral geniculate body, passes laterally through the pars retrolentiformis of the internal capsule, follows the lateral wall of the lateral ventricle, immediately internal to the tapetum, and ends in the striate area on the medial surface of the occipital lobe on either side of the calcarine sulcus; the radiation provides reciprocal connections and forms part of the posterior thalamic peduncle. Called also geniculocalcarine tract, occipitothalamic radiation, and radiation of Gratiolet.
