py·rim·i·dine-nu·cleo·side phos·phor·y·lase (pə-rimґĭ-dēn nooґkle-o-sīd″ fos-forґə-lās) [EC] an enzyme of the transferase class that catalyzes the cleavage of pyrimidine nucleosides to form pyrimidines and ribose 1-phosphates in the degradation of nucleotides and nucleic acids.
