R protein

R protein
any of a group of similar proteins, so named for their rapid electrophoretic mobility relative to intrinsic factor, that avidly bind ingested or circulating cobalamins or analogues and travel with them to the duodenum, where proteolytic digestion frees the vitamin to bind intrinsic factor. Called also cobalophilin and haptocorrin.
