varicella pneumonia

varicella pneumonia
Varicella zoster pneumonia viral pneumonia developing as a complication two to six days after the appearance of varicella (chickenpox), seen in adults more often than children. Symptoms may be severe, with violent cough, hemoptysis, and severe chest pains. Radiologically, there are numerous nodular densities, which may coalesce, at the base of each lung, and often enlarged lymph nodes in the hilar region; small nodular calcifications may persist.

Varicella pneumonia. Radiograph taken in the first week, showing widespread soft nodular opacities throughout both lungs, less noticeable at the apices.
