phosphogluconate dehydrogenase (decarboxylating)

phosphogluconate dehydrogenase (decarboxylating)
phos·pho·glu·co·nate de·hy·dro·gen·ase (de·car·box·y·lat·ing) (fos″fo-glooґkə-nāt de-hiґdro-jən-ās de″kahr-bokґsə-lāt-ing) [EC 1.1.1.44] an enzyme of the oxidoreductase class that catalyzes the oxidative decarboxylation of 6-phosphogluconate to form ribulose 5-phosphate, reducing NADP+ to NADPH. The reaction is a step in the pentose phosphate pathway of glucose metabolism.
